How Does It Work?

A crime is committed in your community; or you have information about a crime that is going to be committed; or you are witnessing a crime as it's happening.

What do you do?

Call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). This number will put you in touch with the Crime Stoppers program nearest to your geographical location. Give the person on the other end of the line as much information about the crime as you can.

Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display nor does it record conversations! You will never be required to give your name nor testify in court. Instead, when you call the Crime Stoppers office you will be assigned a confidential code number. Keep this code number somewhere safe and don't share it with anyone.

Your information will then be passed along by the Crime Stoppers to the appropriate authorities (police, social services, etc) for investigation.

You will be required to check back with the Crime Stoppers program at a later date to find out if your information was of assistance to investigators. If your information helps investigators to lay a charge or make an arrest then you are eligible for a cash reward up to $1000.

The dollar value of your reward is based on a point system with several factors determining the final value - like severity of the crime, number of charges laid, stolen property recovered, etc. This reward must be authorized by the program's board of directors.

After authorization, the reward is placed in a prearranged location for pickup by the caller.

You + Telephone + Crime Stoppers = Cash Reward!

Unlike other reward programs which stipulate payment of a reward on conviction, Crime Stoppers pays on CHARGE or ARREST. Consequently, the waiting time for your reward is drastically reduced!
