COMMUNITY EDUCATION & COUNSELLING PROGRAM

The Community Education & Counselling Program aims to educate all sectors of our community about woman abuse. Particular emphasis is placed on educating and counselling students and involving the education system in ending violence against women.

These aims are being achieved by providing information and resources for the implementation of woman abuse issues in school curricula, by in-service to teachers, presentations to students as well as preparing displays and resource materials on woman abuse and violence in dating relationships. Individual counselling, support and referrals are also provided to students who disclose dating violence. This is delivered through the S.T.A.R. (STop Abuse in Relationships) Program, which has a counsellor working in each of the nine (9) Haldimand-Norfolk high schools for one half day per week.

This program also offers group counselling and support for women, especially rural women and develops and maintains linkages and services with women who are developmentally challenged. Education and information are provided to culturally diverse communities on abuse issues as well as providing support so that services may be accessed more easily.

No cost.
