The leaf of the white mulberry, Morus alba, is the preferred food of silkworms. The tree has been cultivated in China
for centuries and has been successfully adapted to North American horticulture as an ornamental shrub. The mulberry
belongs to a family of latex-bearing woody plants, among them the fig and the marijuana plant. Mulberries themselves
are small clusters of one-seeded red, purple, or white fruits.
