Poison Oak

Poison oak, a variety of Rhus toxicodendron, can be found growing as short shrubs or climbing vines. Contact with the oily substance on the surface of its three shiny leaflets produces an itching, burning, and blistering reaction like that of poison ivy. The irritated region of skin should be washed thoroughly, swabbed with alcohol, and treated with calamine lotion or other substances to relieve itching. Clothes that have come into contact with the resin should also be washed.
