Viceroy Butterfly

Photo @: Butterflies of Ohio

The viceroy is native to North America, ranging from the southern United States to southern Canada. It has a remarkable resemblance to the monarch butterfly. Both the monarch and the viceroy are avoided by insect-eating animals because of their bitter taste, and the similar appearance of these two species serves to protect them from predation.
