Araneus trifolium
This large and colourful spider waits at the side or top of it's web during the night for prey or it will create cover by bringing together leaves and hide while waiting for it's dinner. The female is the larger of the sexes reaching 19 mm shown above, the abdomen is purplish red with white and black dots, the male reaches 6 mm with a white or yellow abdomen that has no markings.
