The Queen Snake is a medium sized 30-60 cm water snake. An olive green to brown snake with the hint of three dark stipes down it's back, a yellow off-white belly colour is carried through to it's upper lips. The Queen Snake is found near rocky streams or bays and they like the cover of shrubs. It is a wary snake and takes shelter in the day and hunts crayfish, tadpoles and fish at night, mainly through a very keen sense of smell. This uncommon snake is threatened by siltation which destroys the food chain found in it's habitat.
