Grapemys geogrphica

The Painted Turtle is a medium sized 10-25 cm turtle with a shell with numerous red and light yellow markings on the se edge. The legs, neck and head have parallel red and yellow lines. Painted turtles can be found in soft bottomed lakes, open marshes and large slow moving rivers. Although the Painted Turtle is wary, it can be seen when they leave the waters of Long Point to lay their eggs along the sandy shoreline.
