The Map Turtle is a medium sized 10-25 cm turtle with a brown shell covered with numerous light yellow lines that has a se edge. The legs, neck and head have parallel yellow lines. Map turtles can be found in soft bottomed lakes, open marshes and large slow moving rivers. Although the Map Turtle is wary, it can be seen in large numbers when they leave the waters of Long Point to lay their eggs along the sandy shoreline.
