Herterodon platyrhinos

The Hognose Snake or Puff Adder is a thick snake that has a pointed, turned-up nose. This snake can reach 50-85 cm in length and can intimidate by puffing up and hisses to look and act cobra-like, but when handled is quite tame and will not bite. In fact this snake will roll over and play dead after all it's threats have failed. It's colour ranges from light brown to grey with large blotches down the center of it's back. Not a common snake, which can be found in open sandy fields or woodlands. It's main foods are Toads and Frogs.
