Elaphe vulpina gloydi

The Fox Snake or "Wamper" is becoming less common in Long Point Country. This wonderful constricting snake can become quite tame when handled and because it can grow to a length of 80-140 cm it can be intimidating especially when it coils and vibrates it's tail when alarmed, unfortunatley it has also been the reason for man to kill it. Fox Snakes love to bask in the warm spring sun and finds itself victim to cars while stretched out on the warm pavement. The Fox Snake is yellowish brown with brown blotches down it's back and can be found living near marsh and woodland edges, where it hunts and basks.
