American Woodcock

  • A nocturnal common bird that lives in moist woodlands, swamps and thickets. It is identified by short legs and neck and has a very long bill. This stocky well camouflaged bird, if noticed, is quite approachable and when to close it will explode into flight on whistling wings. It's call is nasal peent.
