House Sparrow

Passer domesticus

Call

The house sparrow, actually a kind of weaverbird, rarely nests very far from man. It is a timid bird nonetheless, and for its own sake perhaps fortunately so. Efforts to eliminate it from the vicinity of the grain and produce it likes to eat have been very successful in some areas. Unlike other birds of the same genus, the house sparrow tends to build individual rather than communal nests within a colony.
