Hooded Merganser

Lophodytes cucullatus

An uncommon Merganser duck that likes to live on wooded lakes and streams. It is similar to the Bufflehead. The male can be identified by it's black-bordered white cockade and it's dark sides. The female has a bushy crest and a dark face and body, with the pointed Merganser bill.
