Brown-Headed Cowbird

Molothrus ater

Call

The eastern or brown-headed cowbird, a member of the American blackbird family, is one of the brood-parasitic cowbird species, laying its eggs in the nests of other birds. Certain species will remove an egg from the host nest for every egg of their own they deposit. Some victim species have learned to reject the cowbird eggs, but often the host species will incubate the eggs and raise the young cowbirds.
