Double-Crested Cormorant

Phalacrocorax pelagicus

The most common cormorant that is on the increase in population on Lake Erie. In the early 70's it was uncommon to observe one, now it is common to see them in flocks of a dozen or more. It swims with an upturned bill and has an orange throat pouch and two crests on it's head. As it is an excellent fisher and is under the water a great percent of the time and it can often be observed holding it's wings out to dry.
