Catbird
Dumatella carolinensis
Song
The gray catbird, a small American mockingbird, builds large, messy nests in low scrub. It lives alone or with a mate, defending a territory year-round. Unlike many other members of the mockingbird family, however, the gray catbird tends to switch mates after an unsuccessful breeding season or one marred by egg-eating predators. The catbird gets its name from its mewlike call.
