European Plum

The European plum is considered the most important of the plum species, and has a long history of cultivation. The species probably originated near the Caspian Sea and possibly reached North America with the Pilgrims. All species of this family produce hard-pitted fruit called drupes. The fruit can range in color from yellow or red to green, with the most popular variety for cultivation and consumption being purplish-blue.
