White Fish

Coregonus clupeaformis

The lake whitefish, found in the Great Lakes of the United States and larger Canadian lakes, is considered by some scientists a member of the salmon family. This whitefish species usually inhabits fairly deep waters, where it feeds on small crustaceans. Prized as a food fish, the lake whitefish are slowly increasing in the Great Lakes after having been decimated by overfishing.
